Petosky, Michigan

We arrived in Petosky early afternoon.  We were fortunate enough to get one of the best campsites at the KOA.  Treed lot and secluded!  After setting up "Gwen".....the name of our RV, which has a funny story behind it.  Our last RV was a Newmar Kountry Star that we named Miranda, after the country singer Miranda Lambert.  So, it seemed fitting to name our newest RV "Gwen" after Blake Shelton's newest love.
We hoped on our bikes and headed out to explore a bit.  Oliver found a great bike trail that leads to downtown Petosky a few miles out.  We decided to plan that for tomorrow when we can be better equipped as we didn't even have water with us.
We did find a nice nature trail in a marsh land where we bird watched for a bit

The next morning we hopped back on our bikes to the bike trail and headed to Petrosky State Park where we are told the famous Petosky Stones can be found.  This place is truly paradise.  If I didn't know better, I would think we were in the Caribbean!  Crystal clear blue/green waters that Oliver could not wait to enjoy.  I find comfort in knowing there are no sharks, jellyfish or crabs to bite your toes!!

We are told it takes a lot of patience to find the Petoskey stones which is a rock and a fossil often pebble-shaped that is composed of fossilized rugs coral.  When dry they look like any other stone which makes it difficult to spot.

But, we got lucky and found several!!

Feeling our skin starting to burn, we hopped back on our bike to relax at the campsite.  We spotted a great little local brewery and decided to stop for lunch....which was delicious!

I had to have a Wanderlust in honor of my girl Pathfinder's Compass!
After a 2 hour nap.....yes, 2 hours!! lol we packed up our backpacks, jumped on our bikes and headed to downtown Petosky to view the amazing Michigan sunsets.  The greenway bike trail is 26 miles and runs from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs.  We rode to Bayfront Park and walked along the break wall near the harbor.  Petosky is a charming town with many victorian type homes that line the streets.

The break wall where Oliver decided to jump off is about 10 feet high into about 25 feet of crystal clear, see the bottom 63 degree water!  What a brave boy!  The next day we went to a souvenir shop and bought him the Tee Shirt that says he jumped off the break wall!
I have to say Michigan has some of the most amazing sunsets!
We were chauffeured back to the KOA campsite since it was dark.  We quickly got a campfire going and relaxed reminiscing about the wonderful day and our plans for tomorrow which included renting electric bikes so we could trek the 20 mile round trip visit to Harbor Springs.

Oliver picked up a packet that changes the colors of our campfire.  It was fun to watch the colors change
